The Dryer Problems We Get Called On Most
Noise is our number one dryer call. Thumping and squealing usually comes down to bad drum rollers, a worn idler pulley, or a belt that isn't seated right. Some dryers don't run on rollers at all. They glide the drum on felt seals instead, and when those wear out you hear it.
After noise, the calls we field most often are a dryer that runs but won't heat, won't start or won't run at all, turns on but the drum won't spin, or overheating, which is less common but worth taking seriously.
What Those Symptoms Usually Mean
Here's how we read them before we ever pull a panel. We don't guess. We diagnose, then we tell you what we found.
Runs but Won't Heat
No heat on an electric dryer is almost always the heating element. On a gas dryer it's usually the gas coils. Runs but won't heat is the single most common symptom we hear.
Won't Start, or the Drum Won't Spin
A dryer that won't start often traces back to a door switch or one of the thermostats. Most dryers carry a cycling, high limit, safety, and operating thermostat. When the drum won't turn, it's typically the motor, sometimes the start switch.
Overheating
Overheating points to lint buildup and clogs inside the machine, or a grounded wire in the heating element, which means either repairing that wire or swapping the element. We don't offer dryer vent cleaning. If lint buildup inside the dryer is causing an overheating problem, we address that as part of the repair. A good rule of thumb: if the unit gets hot, spins, gets through a cycle, and the clothes are warm but not fully dry, this is very likely a vent issue. If the cycle runs and the clothes are sopping wet and cold, that is a dryer issue.

When We'll Tell You NOT to Repair It
On dryers, most failures are genuinely worth fixing. A heating element, a set of drum rollers, an idler pulley, a door switch, a motor. Those are the repairs where you come out well ahead of buying new. When it's not worth it, we'll say so on the phone rather than charge you to hear bad news in your laundry room. The honesty carries over from washers too: a front-load washer rear bearing that sounds like a train running through your house can run about three times what a replacement costs, so we talk people out of even booking that visit.

What's the average cost to fix a dryer?+
Our service call is $125, and the repair cost on top of that depends entirely on the part and the labor involved. A worn belt or a door switch is a modest fix, while a motor or heating element runs higher. We won't post a made-up average, because dryer totals vary too much by brand and failure to be honest online. We price the repair on site, in front of you, before any work starts.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace a dryer?+
Most dryer failures are worth repairing, because the common ones (rollers, belts, heating elements, door switches, motors) cost far less than a new machine. Repair usually wins on a dryer that's otherwise in good shape. We'll tell you honestly if a repair doesn't make financial sense, but with dryers that's the exception, not the rule.
What's the most expensive thing to fix on a dryer?+
A motor is typically the most costly single dryer part, followed by the heating element or gas coils on a gas unit. Even so, these repairs almost always come in well under the price of a new dryer. We diagnose exactly which component failed so you're not paying for a guess.
How soon can you come out to fix my dryer?+
We give you a scheduled morning or afternoon block, a call or text 30 minutes before we arrive, and about an 80% chance we fix it on that first visit. If a part has to be ordered, there's no charge for the return visit to install it.
What's your warranty?+
We warranty our service and materials for 90 days, in house. If something we repaired isn't right within that window, we come back and make it right. We also encourage you to run the repaired dryer hard during the warranty period so any weak spot shows up while it's still covered.
Do you clean dryer vents?+
No, we don't offer dryer vent cleaning. We repair the machine itself, and if lint buildup inside the dryer is causing an overheating problem, we address that as part of the repair. A good rule of thumb to determine if it is a vent issue or a dryer issue: if the unit seems to get hot, spins, gets through a cycle, and the clothes are warm but not fully dry, this is very likely going to be a vent issue. If the cycle runs and the clothes are sopping wet and cold, that is going to be a dryer issue.
