When Your Oven Quits, Here's What's Usually Going On
An oven that stops heating at all is, the bulk of the time, a failed bake element. That's the element on the bottom that does most of the work, so it's the one that wears out first. On some ovens it's exposed and reachable from inside; on others it's hidden and we have to pull the unit and get at the back panel or remove the interior metal plate to gain access.
If your oven heats but never quite reaches temperature, or runs hot or cold, that's usually the temperature sensor or its long bar probe reading wrong. That's a disassembly job to reach and swap. Gas ovens that won't heat are a different animal, and we cover that below.
When Your Oven Quits, Here's What's Usually Going On
Most of the time the fix is smaller and more specific than you'd guess. These are the failures we see, and how a range oven differs from a wall oven.
Oven Not Heating
The bulk of the time, an oven that stops heating at all is a failed bake element. That's the element on the bottom that does most of the work, so it's the one that wears out first. On some ovens it's exposed and reachable from inside. On others it's hidden, and we have to pull the unit and get at the back panel or remove the interior metal plate to gain access.
Heats, but Never Quite Reaches Temperature
If your oven heats but never quite reaches temperature, or runs hot or cold, that's usually the temperature sensor or its long bar probe reading wrong. That's a disassembly job to reach and swap.
Gas Oven That Won't Heat
Eight times out of ten it's the bake igniter that's gone weak and can't open the gas valve, and sometimes it's the regulator. Something that can sometimes trick people: you may still see the ignitor glow red when attempting to ignite. This does not automatically mean it's functional. In our industry we call this a "False Glow." When an oven goes stone dead with no heat at all and the sensor and element both check out, it can trace back to a failed control board, which means pulling the panel and replacing it.
Range Burners and Surface Elements
On a stove or range, we also handle the surface elements and gas burners, not just the oven cavity. So if your oven's out and a burner is dead too, that's one visit.
When We'll Tell You NOT to Repair It
We'll talk you out of a repair that isn't worth your money. If you describe symptoms that point to something we know won't pencil out, we'll say so on the phone before you pay for anyone to show up. On ovens, the most common failures are inexpensive, specific parts. The rare exception is a major control-board failure on an already old unit, and in that case we'll tell you honestly whether replacement makes more sense. We do this most often on refrigerators: when a fridge is running with the lights on but both compartments are warm, or it's slowly lost its cool over months, it's a sealed-system problem roughly 75% of the time, and on a standard residential unit that's simply not a cost-effective fix.

How soon can you come out?+
We book morning or afternoon blocks, tell you which technician is coming, and call or text about 30 minutes before arrival. We complete about 80% of repairs on that first visit, and there's no charge for a follow-up visit to install an ordered part.
Do you fix gas ovens and igniters?+
Yes, gas ovens are routine for us. A gas oven that won't heat is the bake igniter eight times out of ten, sometimes the regulator, and we carry the common igniters based on the brand and model you give us at booking.
Do you work on wall ovens?+
Yes. Wall ovens are built-in units that have to be pulled from the cabinetry to diagnose and repair, which is why the service call on them is $145 rather than the standard $125.
