When a GE refrigerator stops making ice, the ice maker itself is the usual failure, and replacing it brings production back. Sometimes the problem sits upstream at the water valve that feeds it. On the more electronically driven GE models, the control board is occasionally to blame, though that is rare. We test each piece in turn so you don't pay for a board when a valve was at fault.
Water Collecting in the Fresh Food Section
Water on the shelves or under the crisper drawers of a GE usually means the defrost drain is clogged. We can normally clear it without any new parts: the back panel comes off, the drain line gets cleared, and we snake it down to make sure no ice or debris is left. When ice was the cause, we sometimes clip a small heat probe into the line so it doesn't refreeze.
GE Freezer Cold, Refrigerator Warm
If the freezer side of your GE is still frozen solid but the fresh food side is creeping up in temperature, the evaporator fan motor or a temperature sensor is the likely cause. That is not a sealed-system failure, and it is almost always worth repairing. Both fixes mean taking apart the interior of the refrigerator section and removing the back panel, and our technicians come prepared for that.

When the lights are fully out, the trouble is likely the control board or the user interface, and that is usually a repair worth making.
