GE Stove Problems We Fix
GE ranges and cooktops come in gas and electric, and each type fails in its own way. Here's what we usually find.
Electric Burner Stays Cold
On an electric GE cooktop, a dead burner usually traces to the surface element or the switch behind its knob, known as an infinite switch. Most of the time there's a short between the two, so we test both before replacing anything. Occasionally the wiring harness connecting them has burnt up or been compromised, and that becomes the repair instead.
Gas Burner Clicking With No Flame
When a GE gas burner keeps clicking without a flame, or won't spark at all, we look at the surface igniter and the surface igniter wire harness kit. Fixing it can mean removing components and rewiring the spark igniters that light the gas. We explain which part failed before any rewiring starts, and when it's done, the burner lights the way it should.
Controls Not Responding
If your GE ignores the touch controls or a setting won't take, the trouble is often electronic. Depending on where communication is falling out, that's the user interface board in the control panel or the main board in the back. We find which one has quit before ordering, so you aren't paying for a board you didn't need.
No Heat From the Gas Oven
A GE range has an oven under the cooktop, and we repair that too. On gas models, about 8 times out of 10 the cause is the bake igniter. It can even glow red and still fail to open the gas valve, something technicians call False Glow. There's more detail on our Cincinnati oven repair page.
Electric Oven Cold or Off Temperature
On an electric GE range, no heat is usually the bake element, since it does most of the work. An oven that heats but never reaches the set temperature points to the temperature sensor, which takes some disassembly to reach. Do you repair both gas and electric GE stoves?+
Yes. On electric GE cooktops we work on surface elements, infinite switches and the wiring between them. On gas models we handle surface igniters and igniter wire harnesses. Both types can also need a user interface board or main board, and we repair the oven half of a GE range as well.
My GE oven igniter glows. Why won't the oven heat?+
A glowing igniter isn't always a working one. Technicians call it False Glow: the igniter turns red but can't open the gas valve, so the burner never lights. On gas ovens, the bake igniter is behind about 8 out of 10 no-heat calls we see.
Is a GE range service call $125 or $145?+
A GE range or cooktop is $125, including a range with an oven built into it. The $145 call is only for wall ovens, because those are built-in units that are harder to diagnose and have to be pulled out of the wall.
Why did only one burner on my electric GE stop working?+
Each burner has its own element and its own switch behind the knob. A short between those two is the most common reason one burner dies while the others keep working. Less often the wiring harness linking them is damaged.
What does GE factory authorization mean for my stove?+
It means GE has authorized us to service its appliances, a status we share only with Samsung and Speed Queen among our brands. Every GE stove repair carries our 90-day warranty on the service and on the materials, and a follow-up visit to install an ordered part doesn't add a fee.

We'll try, but be aware it can limit us. With parts loose or rewired, we often can't recreate the original complaint or tell what changed, and we can't warranty work we didn't begin. If the stove is still in one piece, call us before taking it apart.
