Gas Range or Electric, Here's What Fails.
A range is two appliances in one cabinet, a stove top and an oven, and each fuel type has its own usual suspects.
Electric burner stays cold
Most of the time it is the surface element or the infinite switch behind the knob, often with a short between the two. Once in a while the wiring harness connecting them has burned.
Gas burner clicks but won't light
That is normally a surface igniter or its wire harness. We take the top apart and rewire the spark igniters that light the gas.
Electric oven won't bake
The bake element does most of the work in an oven, so it's the part that fails most. Some are exposed and quick to reach. Hidden ones mean taking off the back panel.
Gas oven won't heat
Eight times out of ten it's the bake igniter, and otherwise the regulator. An igniter can glow red and still be too weak to open the gas valve. In the shop we call that a false glow.

Water inside the fresh food compartment comes from a defrost drain plugged with ice or debris. When ice caused it, we sometimes add a small heat probe clip to the drain so it doesn't return.

Replacing the ice maker fixes most of these. The water valve is the next thing we check, and a control board is an occasional cause on newer electronic units.
