Why the Dishwasher Won't Drain.
Standing water after a cycle has a short list of causes. We check them from the simplest to the most involved.
A clogged drain line
Food and debris can block the hose between the dishwasher and the sink drain. Clearing it restores the flow without any new parts.
The impeller
A small impeller pushes the water out. If it's jammed or damaged, the pump runs and nothing moves.
The drain pump
When the pump itself has failed, it's replaced. This is the most common part we install on a dishwasher that won't drain.
And if it won't fill either
A float switch tells the dishwasher when to stop filling. If it sticks, the machine may refuse to fill at all. We can often free it without replacing it.

Three things to look at first.
Check the sink drain
If the kitchen sink is slow too, the clog may be in the house plumbing, not the dishwasher.
Look at the bottom of the tub
Food debris around the filter area can stop water from leaving. Clear what you can see.
Note the model number
It's on the edge of the door or the tub frame, and it helps us bring the right pump.
